March and Shoot

 

The Belize Defence Force held its annual March and shoot competition on 23 July 2005. This shoot was hosted simultaneously with the national pistol Competition which posted security personnel and law enforcement Bodies from across the country. BDF Training Company staff facilitated the day’s activities which took place at the Hattieville gallery range.

The aim of the March and shoot competition was to test Endurance, Team Spirit, Fitness, Navigation and Shooting standard within the force in a competitive manner and to improve and promote espirit de crope.

Participating teams were from A, E and F Companies of 1 Battalion; B, C and D Companies, of the Volunteers; G and H Companies of 2 Battalion; Maritime/Air Wing, Force Headquarters and Logistics Company. Each team consisted of  1 Jr. Officer or SNCO, 1 Corporal as 2 Incharge, 3 Riffle Men including 1 female, and 1 gunner who carried and fired fire the Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW).

The competition began at 0600 hrs with each team starting at 10 minute intervals from a central Admin Area and navigating toward the Hattieville gallery range. At each check point, they were required to complete a test in Military knowledge, signals, map reading, or First Aid. Additional points were given for physical endurance and battle shooting.

The shooting scores were as follows: H Company 451 points, A Company 450.5 points, G Company 412 points, Maritime/ Air Wing 351 points, S Company 338.5 points, D Company 308.5 points, Training Company 284 points, Logistic Company 236 points, B Company 184 points, E Company 156 points and the Force HeadQuarter's team did not complete the competition.

At the end of the day medals and trophies where given to the winners by Commander Belize Defence Force Brigadier General Lloyd Gillett and Lt Col S Huesner. The vote of thanks was given by Captain Lionel Cuthkelvin.

Special recognition is given for Sergeant Baltazar and his team from A company, Sergeant D Garbutt and his medical team. The range controlling officer Captain Cuthkelvin, the firing point officers W01 D Castillo and W02 G Lewis, safety supervisors members of the FFQ, and the Admin NCO Staff Sergeant B Ramos.

It is expected that this competition will be an annual event to be hosted by training company for the Belize Defence Force. Look forward for next competition when the dated will be posted from this website.
