The history of the military in Belize is founded on a part-time all volunteer defence force. As we approach the thirtieth year of our existence as an integral part of the Belize Defence Force we can look back and see how over the years we have grown and developed our own traditions. We rally to our battalion flag which depicts our company colours and the bust which demonstrates our transition from civilian to military and back. Our battalion’s annual activities- Battle Camp, the battalion’s Sports Meet and the Closing Parade are now activities that we as volunteers eagerly look forward to on an annual basis.

We now have an established recruiting and training process for our recruits and a cycle for annual training. We continue to receive training opportunities locally and abroad and volunteers continue to excel on those courses. Therefore we should have no difficulty in building on our military skills and our numbers so that we can perform our role as the ‘defence guarantee’ of Belize shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues in the Regular Force. At the same time we must play our role in our societies, not only as the best soldiers around but also as model students, employees and employers serving patriotically with honour and pride.

This is a time of pride for the Volunteer Element of the Belize Defence Force as we continue to develop and to mature into the credible force that a “reserve force” as against a “force in reserve” needs to be.

We must remain committed to the Belize Defence Force and make every effort to contribute positively to the development and growth of the Volunteer Element.

This is our own website developed by one of the members of our battalion. Its development is another indication of the diversity of abilities and skills within the volunteers and demonstrates that our battalion truly lives up to its motto. “ No Limits”
